Building a home for
LSU Virtual Production.
With the grant from Louisiana Economic Development, DMAE was able to start planning out a new virtual production studio to house video wall, mo cap, and photogrammetry capabilities.
Nov 2021 - Worked with facility services and IT to clear the space and install new power and high bandwidth ethernet in the studio space. Video wall, trussing, Optitrack system and Red Komodo camera have been sent out for bid, with an expected delivery in Dec 2021 - Jan 2022.
Jan 2022 - Assembled brain bar and began developing our compositing workflow. Camera tracking at this point is provided by HTC Vive and Intel Realsense systems. Red Komodo camera system and trussing have been received and installed.
In preperation for the arrival of our Optitrack mocap system, we installed a new trussing structure that will support tracking cameras and lighting in the future.
Feb 2022 - Our video wall arrived and was assembled with the help of Fuse, one of the most experienced companies in the XR industry. With their guidance, we also started learning how to control the ROE panels and Brompton controller through Unreal Engine 4.
Modular Cyc Wall
The new video wall will only take up a portion of the new studio space, so we would like to maintain the option to teach a traditional green screen methods.
I am currently designing and prototyping components for a modular cyclorama wall that will be constructed with a CNC milled plywood frame and flexible composite board faces.
